A TEENAGER who was seriously injured after being thrown off his BMX bike is still in a stable condition in hospital.

The 15-year-old was allegedly being towed along on his bike by another teenager driving a moped on Mansfield Avenue, Layton close to the junction of Foxdale Avenue at 5.30pm on Monday.

He suffered a serious puncture wound to his leg and was taken to Victoria Hospital but was later transferred to Royal Lancashire Infirmary.

The boy underwent emergency surgery for his leg and his condition is said to remain stable.

He has been named locally as St Mary’s Catholic College pupil Jack Buckley of Teesdale Avenue, Layton.

A teenager was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

Police have appealed for witnesses of the accident to come forward.
