A RESORT MP has unveiled a banner to encourage people to sign an e-petition aimed at fixing Blackpool’s roads.
Blackpool North and Cleveleys MP Paul Maynard unveiled the banner as part of his Get Blackpool Moving campaign.
The banner, which is two-and-a-half metres long and two metres high, has been placed on the forecourt on the Canasta Hotel on North Promenade and is easily visible to passing cars.
So far the e-petition has over 500 of the 1,500 names needed to initiate a debate at a full meeting of Blackpool Council.
The petition calls on the council ‘to debate the road transport strategy of the council at the earliest opportunity’.
Mr Maynard said: “I have been surprised by the number of people who are signing up.
“With 60 days to go, we are already well over a third of a way to achieving what we need to, to get this debate.
“It was noticeable that a spike in signatures occurred when council leader Simon Blackburn publicly stated that he was taking personal responsibility to sort out the Promenade, obviously people do think that is such a good idea.
“I will continue to do what I can to focus the minds of the council that Blackpool’s roads are difficult and in a mess – they harms economic growth, jobs and investment in the town.”
