Work will start on Friday on a scheme to add capacity to a major interchange of the M55.

The £2.6m improvements are being carried out by Lancashire County Council at the Broughton Interchange, north of Preston.

The scheme will widen the junctions with the A6, add traffic controls to all junctions, and make it safer to use for pedestrians and cyclists by installing new crossings while retaining the existing subways.

The work is likely to last for six months.
