Traffic was stopped and two lanes closed on the M6 between J31A (B6242 Bluebell Way, Longridge) and J32 (M55, Broughton Interchange) at around 10.40am.

Highways say these lanes remain closed along with the slip road to the M55, but traffic has been released into the open lanes.

All traffic was held briefly on the M6 whilst the fire was tackled by crews from Preston, with queuing traffic stretching back to junction 31.

The M6 is beginning to move again, but some delays are expected for those joining the M55 at junction 32 in Broughton. However, Highways say the M55 is still accessible once motorists have passed the scene of the incident.

No injuries have been reported.
