Engineering works will again disrupt travel from Lancashire to London next month, it has been revealed.

Virgin Trains is warning passengers that work on the West Coast Main Line next month will mean diversions and longer journey times.

The work is being carried out over the weekends of February 14 and 15 , and February 21 and 22.

From Preston, services will go to Manchester and then on to Sheffield and London St Pancras.

From Lancaster and the Lakes, there will be a rail replacement bus service to Preston operating from noon on Saturday until 4pm on Sunday. Trains will operate at all other times.

A Virgin spokesman said: “These alternative services will take significantly longer than usual, will often involve several changes and could be extremely busy.

“On each of the following Mondays, there will also
be a limited service
running, but a normal service will resume from 4.30pm.”

Travellers are urged to postpone their journey if possible or check the revised timetables carefully.

Meanwhile, National Express says it has seen demand for coach travel from Preston to London increase by more than 300 per cent on the weekends when the engineering works are occurring.
