Delays on motorways ahead of bumper weekend

Delays are being reported on the M6 around Preston as commuters mix with holidaymakers and revellers heading to Lytham Festival.

Traffic is heavy between junctions 32 and 34 with delays of up to 40 minutes expected.

Lancashire Police said there had been two minor accidents, one involving a lorry and a car at the Broughton roundabout, but these were not impacting on traffic flow.

The Highways Agency said the delays were down to ‘congestion’

Blackpool is hosting the Rebellion punk festival this weekend and a number of 80s and 90s stars are performing this evening on Lytham Green.

Earlier in the afternoon firefighters were called to the motorway services at Charnock Richard where a lorry had struck part of a building.

Crews from Bamber Bridge, Leyland, Chorley and Skelmersdale attended.

They freed the trapped driver of the heavy goods vehicle from his cab.

Firefighters then helped shore up the building the lorry had struck to prevent further collapse.

The driver was treated at the scene by paramedics.
