COASTGUARDS were called out after a man was reported to have entered the sea during bad weather conditions.

A member of the public alerted authorities after a man, said to be wearing a tiger suit and pink tutu, was thought to have gone into the water by North Pier at 5.45pm on Saturday.

Lytham and Blackpool lifeboats were put on standby but a coastguard and police search of the area found no-one in the water.

It was later discovered that the man had walked under the pier and back on to the promenade. He had not entered the water.
