JOB seekers have been given the green light to continue using buses and trams in Blackpool for half price.

Blackpool Transport has announced it is to continue offering a 50 per cent discount for those looking for work in the resort.

The half fare for job seekers had been introduced by the company as part of the nationwide Bus for Jobs campaign.

More than 5,000 journeys across the resort have been made under the scheme.

The scheme will cover holders of a JobCentre Plus travel discount card.

Those eligible for the card include people claiming jobseekers’ allowance, incapacity benefit, employment and support allowance or income support and are actively engaged with a Jobcentre Plus advisor in returning to employment.

Trevor Roberts, Blackpool Transport’s managing director, said there had been a “huge take up” on the service.

He said: “We recorded over 5000 journeys and we are expecting a similar growth rate on the new half price scheme.

“We continue to work with our community to help get people back to work and support the economic growth of our town.”
