Tens of thousands of people are set to turn out to celebrate the exciting world of trams.
Fleetwood’s annual Tram Sunday takes place tomorrow, and organisers are expecting a bumper crowd to match the scorching weather. The day will see parades and all manner of transport-related family fun.
Tram Sunday committee chairman Robert Brown said: “We’ve had lots of interest either because the weather’s been so brilliant or because people know it’s just going to be a great show.
“There’s the usual fairground rides and parade that always takes place.
“There are new things happening this year too.”
It is estimated upwards of 50,000 could visit the port’s streets on the day and, according to Mr Brown, the recently revamped tramway between Fleetwood and Starr Gate, in South Shore, has helped revive a general interest in trams across the Fylde coast.
He said: “The new trams have obviously helped Blackpool.
“It’s a great boost to see the number of people who come to Fleetwood and Cleveleys from Blackpool, so obviously people are using them.
“There’s still an interest in trams and Blackpool Council is paying for two open top trams to take people to Fleetwood and back on the day. We’re all working together.”
The fun begins on Lord Street from 10am.
