The body of a Blackpool woman who died when she fell from a 30ft wall in Menorca has been returned to her family, thanks to the generosity of kind-hearted locals.

Kay Flitcroft, 30, died while out with friends on the Spanish island on May 31.

Her husband, Ben Flitcroft, 34, of Fenber Avenue, South Shore, was asleep at the time of the tragedy and only discovered she had died the following morning.

The family initially struggled to get her body home as she was not covered by insurance. But a remarkable effort saw friends and relatives raise the £7,000 needed in days.

Mr Flitcroft said: “It was amazing.

“She came back on Saturday and there’s still money coming in.

“Within the first few days of the Just Giving page being set up the whole amount was raised.

“It got to £9,000, so the rest of it is going to the Menorca Red Cross.

“It’s a relief to get her back home and we can give her a good send-off.

“There will be a massive turn-out if you consider all the people who turned up to The Burlington pub a couple of days ago.”

The couple were in Menorca to visit Mrs Flitcroft’s parents who retired to the Cala En Porter resort six months ago.

They had watched the England against Peru game together but Mr Flitcroft then returned to their hotel.

Mr Flitcroft woke in the morning to discover his wife had not returned home, and only found out what had happened when he saw an ambulance outside.

Medics took her to a hospital on the island, where she was accompanied by Mr Flitcroft and her parents Roger, 63, and Sue Isherwood, 61.

She was later transferred by air ambulance to Palma de Mallorca, on the neighbouring island of Mallorca.

But doctors were unable to save her and Mr Flitcroft received a call at 8.30am on Sunday morning to inform them she had died at 11.30pm the previous night.

He added: “Everything for me is a blur and very surreal at the moment.

“The support from everyone has been fantastic.

“People I haven’t seen for years have got in touch to see if they can help in anyway they can, and it’s been great from everyone involved.”

Mrs Flitcroft’s funeral will take place at Lytham Crematorium, at 3pm on June 20.
