Woman, 77, dies after van collision

Royal Preston Hospital

Royal Preston Hospital

AN ELDERLY woman has died in hospital after she was hit by a van.

The 77-year-old woman was taken to Royal Preston Hospital with serious head injuries following the incident in the car park of Lemon Tree Court on New Road, off Clifton Drive North, St Annes, at 11.25am yesterday.

It is thought the Ford Transit van had been reversing when the collision happened.

The casualty, who police believe lives in St Annes, was unconscious when paramedics arrived.

A spokeswoman for the North West Ambulance Service said: “When we arrived the woman was unconscious and had a head injury.

“She was stabilised at the scene and taken to Royal Preston Hospital by ambulance.”

The driver, from Blackpool, was unhurt.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

A Lancashire Police spokeswoman said: “We believe the van has been reversing and she has stepped out between two cars. Her family have been informed. If anyone witnessed the incident, please contact us with information by calling 101.”
