A MAN has been seriously injured in a horror smash which left two people dead.

The 59-year-old, from Poulton, is in a serious condition in hospital after the crash on the A674 Preston Old Road, Blackburn, at around 11.30pm last night.

Two men travelling in the other car, a Volkswagen Golf heading into Blackburn, tragically died.

The Poulton man, who was driving a Ford Focus heading in the opposite direction, is today being treated in Royal Blackburn Hospital.

The 35-year-old male driver of the other car, from Bamber Bridge, suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene.

His 34-year-old front seat passenger, from Blackburn, was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital where he lost his fight for life a short time later.

The road was closed for several hours to allow accident investigation to take place, and now police are appealing with anyone with information to come forward.

Sergeant Jon Allwright, from the road policing unit, said: “This is a tragic accident that has and will affect three families and we have specially trained officers supporting them.

“A full investigation is underway to establish exactly what happened and I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and who may have witnessed the collision or perhaps saw the vehicles in the run up to the collision to come forward and contact the police.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the Road Policing Unit at Samlesbury on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or on-line at Crimestoppers-uk.org.
