Three men had to flee their car as it sank in the incoming Blackpool sea.
Police were called to the scene at Starr Gate at around 7.40am on Friday and the coastguard was alerted.
A police spokesman said the three men were able to get out of the car, believed to be a Vauxhall Corsa, before it was submerged at 8am.
A spokesman for the Liverpool Coastguard said they were called to a report of water reaching the front wheels of a car on the beach.
He said: “Before we got there the police reported the persons were outside the vehicle and safe, and the car was awash.”
