The fire was swiftly extinguished and no-one was injured.
It happened yesterday on Lower Promenade, Blackpool, while the cars were tuning up in preparation for the first races last night.
John McNicholson, a steward at the rally, said: “A Metro car caught fire but thankfully everyone reacted very quickly and the flames were soon put out.
“No-one was hurt. It happened as the vehicles were tuning up in preparation for the racing.”
