It took them 13 hours – but Top Gear presenters Chris Evans and Matt Le Blanc finally made it to Blackpool in their customised Robin Reliants.

After a hair-raising journey from London that was plagued by mechanical problems, the pair finally rolled in to the resort at 11pm last night.

A relieved Evans tweeted: “We made it! Blackpool, we love you! Just the thirteen hours on the road. The same time it takes Matt to fly here from LA.”

Their journey included an unscheduled stop in Cannock, near Wolverhampton, after Le Blanc’s stars-and-stripes painted Reliant broke down.

The pair stopped for fast food and had photos taken with fans before continuing on their way.

They will be filming a series of challenges and races in Blackpool over the weekend, starting at 10am today at the beach for a challenge described as “GB v USA”.
