CHILDREN on the Fylde coast have been shedding the pounds and getting in shape, thanks to a free course which has now been running on the Fylde coast for several years.

And now leisure bosses are turning their attentions to their parents and other adults.

The YMCA in Poulton and Fleetwood is launching a new weight management programme – aimed at breaking the “yo-yo” cycle of fad diets – called Momenta.

The nationally recognised and recommended programme has been specially created by the weight management experts behind the successful MEND programme for children.

The idea behind Momenta is it provides adult participants with proven techniques to manage their weight for life in just 12 weeks, and only costs £75.

Places are now available for any local adults who are interested in losing weight and getting fitter to keep the weight off for good.

Mike Vernon, YMCA leisure director for Wyre, said: “Momenta is not a fad diet programme. It is not just about those weekly weigh-ins and you don’t need to purchase any branded supplementary products.

“It really is the weight management programme we and many of our customers have been waiting for.

“We’ve seen first hand the happiness which children and their families across the Fylde Coast have achieved through the results of the MEND programme.

“Momenta has been developed by the same experts in the fields of nutrition, physical activity and psychology, and it is also based on the latest scientific evidence.

“We believe this is the healthiest, safest and most effective programme for adults to make real beneficial changes to their long term health and happiness and the best part is that in 12 weeks you’re ready.”

Those on the course will learn about different elements including nutrition, physical activity and psychology.

They will also learn to identify key factors which contribute to weight gain, and why so many methods of ‘dieting’ fail in the long-term.

Guidelines for joining the programme: adults must be aged 18, or over, medically fit and with a BMI (Body Mass Index) of 25 – 40.

All participants will receive a free health assessment before registration commences.
