IT is summertime and the weather is right for getting in the saddle and joining Blackpool Council’s Cycle Challenge to encourage as many rides as possible during the sunny months.
According to the authority’s Hire a Bike scheme, more people than ever are out and about on bikes enjoying Blackpool’s new explorer routes, Promenade and cycle lanes, with a record breaking 1,000 hire trips per month.
The challenge starts on Monday and will be running for three weeks until July 22.
Participants will have the chance to win some great prizes and take part in friendly competition by logging each ride on the rider leader board.
Twenty Pleasure Beach wristbands and four sets of cycle computers & LED Lights are up for grabs in the prize draws.
A Bannatyne’s Health Club sports bag kit goes to the top rider.
Coun Fred Jackson (pictured), cabinet member for transport and streets, said: “It is great to see healthy competition getting people out on their bikes this summer. This challenge continues to promote Blackpool as a safe, cycle town; these great efforts help to reduce our carbon footprint and fuel consumption.”
