Big and brash it may be, but the lively Castle is hoping it’s £130,000 revamp will attract a few more locals as well as the thousands of visitors it gets every summer.

Manager Dave Daly is delighted with the results of the popular pub’s first refurbishment in 16 years.

He said: “It’s a brand new Castle!

“We wanted to make it a bit more welcoming to locals as well as the holiday makers.

“We will still be vibrant and refreshingly quirky but now we are going to be a bit more comfortable too. Local friendly.

“There are lots of different areas for people to sit in and we will have 16 big screens for sport showing eight different channels so there should be something for everybody.

“If you want to watch a bit of ice hockey or water polo with your pint then we should eb able to accommodate that!”

Dave said the pub will retain its good time feel too and notorious DJ Joe Curran will still be there.

“Joe describes himself as a marmite DJ, you either love him or you hate him.

“He’s definitely not for the faint hearted, but the regulars love him. He’s very entertaining.

The pub is a big attraction for Stag and Hen dos at the weekends and has the accent on letting your hair down and creating a party atmosphere with reasonably priced drinks. But Dave said it is not necessarily all about the booze nowadays.

He said: “We have also got a new Energy Bar. This is where we do cocktails but also non-alcoholic cocktails too.

“You would be amazed how many people come in and would rather have a Red Bull or something than a pint so we are catering for them too.

“ The refurbishment has added a little bit of sparkle and the pub company Stonegate has done us proud.

“It’s great for the pub and its great for all the staff who work here. Central Drive is a very vibrant part of town and this end is getting a little bit of much-needed attention to improve how it looks.”

The pub is open 10am until 12 pm.
