BLACKPOOL Tiggers are bouncing with joy after a mystery cheque for £1,000 landed on their doormat.
The person who gave the appeal the bumper boost wishes to remain anonymous, but it has been smiles all around at the South Shore office since it arrived.
Bouncing High for Autism is The Gazette’s latest fund-raising campaign and we have signed up to help Blackpool Tiggers raise £40,000.
The Blackpool charity provides fun activities for the area’s autistic children, but they desperately need the money for vital refurbishment to their centre .
And the campaign is off to a flying start as more than £1,400 has now been banked.
Sheila Cullinane, project co-ordinator for Tiggers, said: “We were over the moon when the cheque arrived, it was a wonderful surprise for us.
“This is a huge amount and we are so excited about what the future could hold for Tiggers.
“If we reach our campaign total, it would make a massive difference to autistic children and their families.
“We can’t thank the public of Blackpool enough for their support and beg of them to keep supporting us.”
Tiggers will use the money to get their St Annes Road premises replastered and doorways widened so they can allow disabled children access.
The charity has £12,000 for a sensory room which would inspire autistic children, but currently, the room is not suitable to allow the equipment to be installed.
The centre also desperately needs new furniture to replace old and battered items donated by parents.
Mrs Cullinane added: “Seeing autistic children in a sensory room is magical to watch, it is wonderful for parents to watch.
“The brains of autistic people work slightly differently to ours so they get real stimulation from the room.
“Having one installed in Tiggers would be an incredible boost for the centre but until the room is sorted it’s something we can only dream about.”
