A THIEF caught red-handed with bottles of wine claimed another man who looked like him had stolen it.

Ronald Craig, 53, of Richmond Road, St Annes, was found guilty of stealing £15 worth of wine after a trial in his absence.

On August 31, a security guard at B&M Bargains, St Annes, saw Craig take four bottles of wine and walk out without paying.

When interviewed by police Craig, who has an alcohol problem, maintained the wine had been stolen by a man of similar appearance, but could not explain his possession of the bottles.

Craig was put on an electronically tagged curfew for six weeks, between 7pm and 6am, by Blackpool magistrates.
