BURNLEY pulled off a successful raid on Blackpool when South Shore CC staged its annual junior tournament.

The Under-11s competition attracted teams from St Annes, Lytham, Fleetwood, Kirkham and the host club.

However, teams from outside the Fylde coast filled three of the four semi-final positions, with the Lowerhouse club from Burnley winning the final.

Fleetwood fared best among the Fylde clubs, losing their semi-final to eventual runners-up Euxton.

Indeed, Fleetwood beat Lowerhouse in their opening group game thanks to excellent wicketkeeping from Will Gair and James Amor’s top score of 21.

Fine bowling by Adam Howard and Sam Scott then secured a second win over Longridge to clinch top spot in group D and a quarter-fifnal against C runners-up Penwortham.

Fleetwood won by nine wickets, with outstanding performances by opener Declan Clerkin and bowler Jordan Pinder.

In the semis, Fleetwood did very well to restrict Chorley side Euxton to 40 but the reply fell three short.

It had started so promisingly for the local sides, with the Seahawks teams from St Annes and South Shore also finishing top of their group. St Annes Saints also qualified for the quarter-finals.

St Annes and the hosts both fielded two teams, the Seahawks and Saints, in the 12-team competition.

The teams were split into the three groups, with the four group winners playing the four runners-up in the last eight.

The weather has not always been kind to the tournament, but organiser Paul Swallow of South Shore could look back on a highly successful event.
