Blackpool, Fylde & Wyre CAMRA members have voted Fleetwood’s Strawberry Gardens as their pub of the year.

The prize was announced at the pub’s beer festival, which was held last week.

Presenting the award, branch chairman Paul Smith praised the Poulton Road pub for “the quality of its beer and the way it promotes real ale.”

Dave Shaw, landlord at the pub, has been a member of CAMRA since its inception in the early 1970s, and has been involved with the Blackpool, Fylde and Wyre Branch from the outset.

He now has bigger plans for the pub, with hopes to install hotel accommodation on the site.

Accepting the accolade, Mr Shaw said: “I’m delighted to receive this award.

“We’ve only been open two years, and to win (Branch) Cider Pub of the Year last year, and this award this year, is just fantastic.

“I’m proud to run this pub as a local business employing local people.”

Mr Shaw also paid tribute to his general manager John Scott and his staff, and praised his clientele’s contribution to the pub’s success.
