A TEENAGER has been cleared of causing the death of her friend by driving dangerously.

Naomi Jones, 19, of Carr Drive, Wesham, was found not guilty of the charge relating to the death of Elysia Ashwoth, 17, but will be sentenced at a later date for the second count of causing death by careless driving, which she admits.

The families of the two teenagers broke down in tears when the unanimous verdict was read out and had to be separated by police family liaison officers as the emotion became too much.

Miss Ashworth, of Ulverston Crescent, St Annes, died two days after Jones’ silver Vauxhall Corsa hit a tree on Division Lane, Marton, on July 11 last year.
