A teenager had a lucky escape after a piece of broken fence smashed through his car windscreen and hit him in the eye.
The 18-year-old, from Thornton, was airlifted to Royal Preston Hospital after his black Vauxhall Corsa mounted a grass verse and hit the fence, in Weeton Road close to Weeton, at around 3.45pm yesterday.
A piece of the fence then pierced the windscreen and hit the teen – and the consequences could have been much worse, police said.
Sgt Finn Quainton from the road policing team, said: “Thankfully the man’s sight has not been permanently damaged but he has been left with a nasty injury.
“We are trying to piece together exactly what has happened and need witnesses to come forward.”
