Elderly people living on their own were treated to cake and tea by a kind-hearted nursing home.

Bupa’s Bankhouse Nursing Home, in Hambleton, put the kettle on and went baking mad as part of Communi-tea week.

Janet Barnes, manager, said: “Everyone knows there is nothing better than a friendly cuppa to bring people together and encourage a chin wag.”

Elderly residents were invited to tea and spent the afternoon with company.

Siobhan Drane, from Bupa, added: “Loneliness amongst older people living on their own is far too common as they struggle to get around as easily and become more dependent on others.”
