A TALENTED footballer killed himself at his home, an inquest heard.
But at the inquest into Lee Pryers’ death, his father John and friends said there was no reason he would take his own life.
The inquest heard 31-year-old Mr Pryers (pictured) lived alone in Deane near Bolton.
He had trials with Bolton Wanderers before playing with various clubs including Bury, Leigh RMI and Bamber Bridge.
The court heard he was instrumental in the development of, Fleetwood Town before retiring.
The hearing heard he did not indicate to family or friends he had a problem but sent a text to a former girlfriend the day before he was found dead saying he was depressed.
His parents, who described their son as always being there to help other people, became concerned they had not heard from him on Monday July 25 and his father, with the help of his son’s landlord, broke into his flat where they discovered his body. Mr Pryers had died from hanging.
Bolton Deputy Coroner Alan Walsh recorded a verdict that Mr Pryers had taken his own life.
