A Wyre councillor has thrown her weight behind a national bill to replace the so-called ‘bedroom tax’, and is calling for further support for it.
Lorraine Beavers, Labour councillor for Pharos ward in Wyre, has said Wyre Council should support the ‘affordable homes bill’ and oppose the ‘bedroom tax’.
In a motion to put before the council, she says: “Wyre Borough Council believe the Government’s Single Persons Discount, commonly referred to as the ‘bedroom tax’, is an unnecessary burden on hard-working families.
“This council supports the ‘affordable homes bill’ currently passing through Parliament, and welcomes it as a first step towards the abolition of the ‘bedroom tax’.”
She will raise the notice of motion at a Wyre full council meeting on Thursday, to be seconded by Coun Penny Martin.
