A cat escaped with its nine lives intact after scaling the multi-storey Sainsbury’s supermarket in Blackpool town centre.

An RSPCA inspector called in the fire service for help after the gutsy feline bit off more than it could chew when it scaled the 50ft building and got stuck on a window ledge.

Sheeting was poised underneath the cat in case it jumped before a firefighter from South Shore climbed a ladder and rescued it at around 3pm yesterday, a spokesman said.

It was not hurt and is now being cared for by the RSPCA.
