KIRKHAM students pulled on waterproofs and Wellington boots as they got hands on in a local park.
Year 7 pupils from Carr Hill High School joined volunteers from the Friends of Kirkham Parks’ group as they planted trees on Kirkham Park’s war memorial.
The group of 30 went prepared for the weather so they could give a helping hand planting flowers, shrubs and herbs.
Student, Libby Steele said: “We really enjoyed helping plant the flowers.
“It was good because we learning at the same time and it was different to just being in the classroom.”
As well as planting, the students spent time drawing pictures of the memorial to give them inspiration for war poetry they are writing in English.
Kirkham’s new town mayor, Coun Peter Hardy, also gave the students a helping hand. Pupil Sophie Taylor said: “I really enjoyed being able to draw the memorial.”
