STRICTLY Over 50s ... Come Dancing!
People in the age group are being urged to get on the dance floor and learn fancy footwork with the launch of a new dance company.
Fleet Dance Company has been officially launched, led by North West based dance company Co3 Dance, with Fylde Coast Dance Development.
Weekly classes will run at the Marine Hall, in Fleetwood, on Monday nights.
The classes are aimed at all abilities – beginners are welcome and no prior dance experience is needed.
It is hoped with the popularity of TV shows such as Strictly Come Dancing, the dance classes will prove a big hit.
Sarah Hall, dance development officer with Blackpool Council, said there were lots of benefits to taking part in dance sessions.
She said: “Dance classes encourage creativity, build strength and stamina, as well as offering the chance to meet new people.
“The Fleet Dance Company for 50+ aims to do those things, while developing dance techniques.
“It is about celebrating dance, so no prior experience of dance is needed. All people need is an interest in dance, to be open-minded and the ability to have fun.
“This project really is about bringing people together and sharing experience. And it’s exclusively for people aged 50 and above.”
A special launch event took place at the Marine Hall, featuring two performances from Warrington-based dance company for the over 50s, Grace and a Blackpool-based performance group.
Guests and dance company members were able to meet each other and chat, enjoy a cup of tea and watch the dance performances, before taking part in a free workshop.
Fleet will run weekly classes on a Monday, between 6.15 and 7.30pm, at a price of £3 per class – with refreshments available between 7.30 and 8pm.
