STANLEY are the Blackpool Primary Schools’ Tag Rugby champions.
As the sun shone on Stanley Park, almost 100 Blackpool primary schoolchildren took part in a competition organised by the Blackpool PE and Sport Team.
St Kentigern’s, Thames, St Cuthberts, Moor Park, Waterloo, Roseacre, Anchorsholme and Boundary also competed in the round-robin event for the right to represent Blackpool in the Lancashire County Final at Preston Grasshoppers on April 26.
Stanley Primary emerged victorious in the closest of competitions – they won courtesy of scoring most tries after teams were tied on points.
The teams erned praise not only for their ability but becaus of the high levels of sporting behaviour.
The matches were officiated by Young Leaders from Blackpool Sixth Form College.
Dave Rohman, Blackpool School Games organiser, said: “This event was played at a high level of intensity and determination as the children taking part wanted to do their very best for themselves and their schools.
“When the final fixture was being played everyone knew how close the points were which made for a very exciting atmosphere. During the presentation all of the players were thanked for their efforts and awarded their participation awards before Stanley lifted their winners’ shield.”
