South Shore's new '˜dog watch'

A '˜dog watch' group is to be launched in South Shore next month.

Lancashire Police has appealed for responsible dog owners to volunteer as members of the new watch, which aims to keep the public wary of suspicious behaviour in their neighbourhoods.

People who sign up to the dog watch will be given kit comprised of a torch, dog waste bags, a key-ring and a high-visibility arm band with the words ‘Dog Watch’ printed on it.

They are asked to report anything suspicious, crimes, or anti-social behaviour that they may see while out walking with their dogs.

Members of the dog watch will also be provided with contact details of local police officers.

The South Shore dog watch will launch on January 22 at 1.30pm at the South Shore Old Library Community Centre on Highfield Road.

Police will also be coding bicycles free of charge on the day, so anybody who has received a bike for Christmas can come along and have it a code with their contact details attached.
