Stars from hit soap opera Emmerdale have helped raise £1,730 for the Prince’s Trust after coming to Fleetwood for a bumper weekend moneyspinner.

The cash will help pay for potentially life-saving defibrillators which will be placed in Prince’s Trust minibuses across the Lancashire.

Actors James Hooton (who plays Sam Dingle), Liam Fox (mechanic Dan Spencer) and Poulton teenager Joe-Warren Plant (Jacob Gallagher) were among a team who played against a Town side at Fleetwood Rugby Club on Saturday.

And although the stars were a little embarrassed to lose 14-0, they had plenty of fans cheering them on.

The following day, other Emmerdale stars such as Chris Chittell (Eric Pollard), John McArdle (Ronnie Hale) and Joe-Warren took to the crease for a cricket match against a Fleetwood Cricket outfit - they lost as well but it was a much closer match.

The two days featured other actvities as well, including various youth sports tournaments, a Wild West display and a salsa demonstration.

Organiser Colin Goodwin, Fleetwood Rugby Club chairman, said: “The time the Emmerdale guests spent in playing the matches and signing autographs helped make it a day to remember and I can’t thank them enough, they were all brilliant.”

And Emma Sullivan, Fleetwood’s Prince’s Trust team leader said: “We really appreciate this effort and it brought Fleetwood’s community together.”
