POLICE want to speak to this man after a thief switched a £7,000 ring with a fake at a Blackpool jewellers.

A man entered Chard’s Jewellers on Lytham Road, South Shore, posing as a prospective customer and asked to view several rings on Friday, September 7.

When the assistant’s back was turned, it is believed he swapped an imitation ring for the £7,600 diamond solitaire platinum ring before leaving the store.

Police have now released CCTV images of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the theft. Investigating officer PC Chris Hardy, from Blackpool Police, said: “This was a very sneaky theft which was carried out right under the nose of the shop assistant. Given the brazen attitude of the man, it is believed he could have carried out similar thefts in the past.

“We are very keen to speak with a man captured on CCTV and would appeal to anybody who recognises him to come forward.

“I would also like to hear from anybody who believes they have any information at all which could assist with this investigation.”

The man police want to question was described as being smartly dressed, of large build and around 5ft 11in tall.

Anybody with any information is asked to contact Blackpool Police on 08451 25 35 45 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
