With singer songrwriter Rae Morris on its roll of honour, Blackpool school children showed off their talents to be crowned the resort’s next Pop Idol winner.
The annual competition searches for the resort’s next singing superstars among both primary and secondary schools.
Hosted by Blackpool Council’s Music Service, the event took place at St Mary’s Catholic Academy this week.
Andrew White, music advisor for Blackpool Council’s Music service, said: “The individual performers had prepared very well and performed to a high standard.
“The likes of Rae Morris was a Pop Idol winner seven years ago and Lucy Fallon, who is now in Coronation Street, was also a former winner.
“Pop Idol gives young people the platform on which to show off their talents.
“All the parents came with banners and T-shirts.
“I’ve never had such a large audience who were so positive in responding to every performer.
“It was lovely to see so many parents there to support all the performers.”
Each school had already held a Pop Idol contest among their own pupils, with the winners then going on to perform at Tuesday’s grand final.
Fifteen primary school pupils and 11 high school students went head to head in the competition.
It is the eleventh year that the competition has run for primary schools and the ninth consecutive year for secondaries.
