Tomorrow’s event from 5pm is linked to the new Star Trek exhibition on the Promenade and will launch a week of Star Trek movies.

And for space and science fiction fans, the gala launch of Star Trek Beyond in 3D in the Opera House will feature a talk by local astronomer Dr Nick Lister from Rossall.

The principal of Lawrence House Astronomy and Space Science Centre in Fleetwood will be talking to the audience about the cosmos and boldly going to the outer fringe of the known universe.

Also speaking will be space expert and Sky at Night commentator Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock MBE who battled dyslexia at school and was placed in the remedial class, but whose dream of one day reaching the stars was fuelled by Star Trek.

Fans who’ve already bought a ticket for the screening of the new movie and who attend in Star Trek costumes will get an automatic upgrade to attend the pre-opening Gala party where they can enjoy a Starfleet cocktail or two.

A spokesman said: “Boasting the biggest screen in the North West, a stunning 3,000 seat auditorium and state-of- the-art digital projection and sound, this is the place to experience J.J. Abrams’ new epic as well as the chance to revisit all of the StarTrek films or experience them for the first time as they should be seen – on the big screen.”
