Imaginations ran wild across the Fylde coast when youngsters were asked to dress up for World Book Day.

There were some amazing creations at Shakespeare Primary School – the Hungry Caterpillar, Willy Wonka, Paddington Bear and Cat in a Hat were all popular themes.

Characters from the Wizard of Oz and plenty of Harry Potters added to the colourful occasion.

It was also a competition too with prizes for the best infant and junior costumes.

“The winners each received a book from our book fair and the whole day
was a true celebration of reading.

“The children, and their parents embraced it.

“Our new library is open with lots of new books and materials and the Fleetwood Year of Reading has inspired their love of books too.”

And Gazette readers sent in pictures of their children in costumes as they made their way to schools where events were held to celebrate reading.
