Fylde RFC have had an official warning from the Rugby Football Union about their poor disciplinary record, which has seen them have four players sent off, with the season only 12 matches old.

The letter was wide-embracing, aimed at all players at the Woodlands club, not just members of the first team.

A warning letter to the club arrived from the disciplinary depart of the RFU after Ben Vernon became the fourth Fylde player to be sent off in the National League One clash at Henley Hawks late last month.

Prior to that, Fylde players Gareth Rawlings, Mark Goodman and Joe Robinson had all got their marching orders and suffered subsequent suspensions.

One the bans is still in force - Vernon is barred from playing until the New Year.

The official communication from the RFU - of which Fylde’s Bill Beaumont is the chairman - has prompted the Woodlands club’s chairman of rugby Dave Young, a one-time second row colleague of Beaumont, to issue a reminder to players at all levels of their responsibilities when it comes to on-field discipline.

The Lancashire Rugby Union also have a disciplinary case pending regarding a match between the Fylde fourth team and an Orrell St James XV.

That match was abandoned at half-time as a result of alleged fighting by the Orrell side, who had a player sent off and one yellow-carded.

It is understood no Fylde fourth team player is the subject of any disciplinary sanction as a result of what happened in that match.

The concern among some at Fylde is that if there is any further deterioration in behaviour the RFU could get tough in terms of a fine or even a points deduction.

But that was not the immediate threat contained in the RFU letter.

A source at Fylde said: “There was no talk of financial penalty or a points deduction, but it was a question of the RFU saying be careful in future and we don’t want any more red cards.

“It was a letter addressed to the whole of the club, not just the first team.”

There have been a seven sendings-off in National League One, four of them being Fylde players, more than half the total - Fylde have also had the most yellow cards this season, five.
