ELTON John is set to play in front of a sell-out 12,000 crowd when he hits Blackpool Promenade this summer.
Tickets for the flamboyant showman’s first gig in the resort in 30 years are selling out fast, promoters today revealed.
More than 80 per cent of the tickets have been snapped up already – leaving fewer than 2,000 up for grabs ahead of the Fylde coast’s most eagerly-awaited gig of the summer.
Elton will be the first artist to play the resort’s newest venue – the Tower Festival Headland on Saturday, June 16.
It will be the final date on the international chart-topper’s UK tour which also includes the self-styled Rocket Man performing at a special Diamond Jubilee Concert at Buckingham Palace.
Ben Martin, from promoter Marshall Arts, said: “We are delighted to be bringing Elton to Blackpool this summer. It is all the sweeter to know he will be the first artist to appear on the Tower Festival Headland.
“The show provides a mix of number ones and classic Elton John hits. It’s just going to be the most incredible night.”
Residents and visitors will start to see the massive production begin to take shape a week before the gig.
It includes 60 crew erecting the stage. On site will be two 35 tonne cranes to lift the stage, eight trucks for production (sound, lights, video, wardrobe), six trucks to carry the equipment, which is made up of 120 tonnes of steel, 9,000 metres of cable, 50 speakers and 44,000 watts of power to run the show
