Three years ago Blackpool mum Jackie Hague went to the gym just so she could get into her holiday bikini.
Now the 35-year-old from Bispham is set to take the stage at the finals of the British bodybuilding championships.
Jackie, who won the ‘physique’ category at the UK Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation qualifier contest in Warrington on Sunday, said: “We were going on a family holiday to Majorca on 2010 and I just wanted to look decent in my bikini.
“I started training and found that I really liked it and it was suggested I try a bodybuilding competition and it just went from there.”
Now the petite, 5ft 1ins, mother-of-two, who has a 12-year-old daughter, Victoria and 10-year-old son, Adam, trains at Bodymasters Gym, in Selbourne Road, six times a week.
Her punishing weight-training sessions last around two and a half hours and her astonishing pre-competition diet consisted of a breakfast of a handful of porridge mixed with six egg whites and two egg yolks, together with countless protein shakes and mountains of veggies, for 16 gruelling weeks.
She said: “I really love what I do and it feels great to look like this. I get mixed reactions walking down the street but most of the comments from men are very flattering!
“My husband Noel is very supportive and the kids love it – they are always telling me how well I’m doing and that I’m going to win.”
After winning her competition in Warrington on Sunday, Jackie allowed herself a celebration pizza but next Monday she will be back training hard for the British championship in Manchester, in October.
