A BLACKPOOL MP is urging war heroes to sign up for a new award which recognises their bravery.
Those who served on Arctic Convoys and in Bomber Command can sign up for a medal and clasp respectively.
They could receive the awards in March after the Government revealed its intention to honour the Second World War veterans.
Paul Maynard MP for Blackpool North and Cleveleys, said: “This is a fantastic announcement which will truly recognise the bravery displayed by those who fought for our freedom in World War Two.
“I would encourage all eligible veterans and next of kin in Blackpool and Cleveleys to apply for the new awards.”
Mark Francois, minister of state for Defence Personnel, Welfare and Veterans, said: “I am delighted these special individuals will in the next few weeks begin to receive the Bomber Command clasp and Arctic Star they have so long deserved.”
