PLANS have been submitted for the next phase of development at Blackpool FC’s stadium.
The scheme will see offices and a restaurant overlooking the pitch as well as increasing capacity at the Bloomfield Road ground by another 650 seats.
The aim is to fill in the south east corner of the stadium raising the overall capacity to 16,500.
A design brief accompanying the application to Blackpool Council says: “With a view to increasing this capacity, and as part of the football club’s continued business plan objectives, a development brief was established that called for the infilling of the south east corner of Bloomfield Road to create a mix of both commercial and football club facilities.”
It adds: “The approach taken for the proposed development is for a relatively simple, uncomplicated, contemporary design, with the choice of colour palette and use of materials mainly determining the architecture.”
Supporters’ facilities on the ground floor will be improved while 600 square metres of office space will be created on the first floor, with another 435 square metres on the third floor.
On the second floor it is proposed to create a family spectator concourse and restaurant which would be used on non-match days by guests staying at the hotel which has been built in the adjacent Armfield Stand.
The additional seats would be installed “by extending the existing South Stand terrace around the corner to infill and link with the existing temporary East Stand.”
Work will be done to alter the end bay of the East Stand to accommodate the changes with home fans switching to the south end of the East Stand.
The plans are the latest in recent improvements to the stadium which earlier this year also saw the opening of a new supporters bar.
