LABOUR leader Ed Miliband praised the work going on to rejuvenate Blackpool when he visited the resort at the weekend.

Mr Miliband was at the Imperial Hotel for his party’s two-day regional conference, which also included a dinner at the newly-restored Winter Gardens.

It was under the last Labour government Blackpool was granted funding for regeneration including the £100m upgrade of the Promenade, the £100m renewal of the tram tracks as well as the £40m purchase of the Tower, Winter Gardens and Golden Mile Centre.

Mr Miliband said; “I think Simon Blackburn (Blackpool Council leader) is doing a fantastic job and the council is showing Blackpool is on the way back and he is leading that challenge. We have our North West regional conference here and it’s a sign of our awareness to support Blackpool and a very good council making a real difference.

“We showed in Government we could help Blackpool with investment and I don’t think the answer is to cut as far and fast as you can.

“Places like Blackpool need support, help and a Government standing with them, not against them as is the situation at the moment.”
