A man was arrested after causing a disturbance at Blackpool Town Hall and refusing to leave.

Anthony Arnold, 30, of Handsworth Road, North Shore, pleaded guilty to breach of the peace and was bound over in the sum of £100 for six months by Blackpool magistrates.

Chrissie Hunt, prosecuting, said police received a report a man was causing a fracas at the town hall on September 16 at 1.50pm.

Arnold was agitated and argumentative and repeatedly refused to leave when asked.

Adults and children were distressed by his behaviour. He was given a final warning and requested to go, but he refused.

Arnold told magistrates: “I was calm and explained I had important documents to hand over.

“Benefits were one of the things I was trying to find out about, because if I didn’t I could become homeless.

“The officer went over the top and slammed me against the wall and put cuffs on me.”
