Blackpool’s second fire engine has been saved, fire authority bosses have confirmed.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service launched its Emergency Cover Review consultation – and proposed to axe Blackpool Forest Gate’s second fire engine – earlier this year.

The plans were part of major cost cutting measures within the service.

But the fire authority’s planning committee amended the original proposals at a meeting on November 21, including delaying a decision on the fire engine’s future until the next review in 2016/17.

The decision followed major concerns expressed by union bosses over safety if the second engine was scrapped.

And at a full fire authority meeting on Monday, the move to save the engine was rubber stamped.

Chief Fire Officer Chris Kenny said: “The consultation was thorough... we have listened carefully to the feedback.”
