Relief as Clifton Drive roadworks finish

Frustration has turned to relief for drivers with roadworks which caused major delays between Blackpool and St Annes finally being lifted.

Drainage work on Clifton Drive North originally intended to be completed in half-term week last month after being rescheduled following delays in January overran into a third week.

Motorists have been thanked for their patience but business representatives feel more could have been done to alleviate the situation.

Bev Wood, chairman of the St Annes Enterprise Partnership, added: “Retailers and businesses are sympathetic to the need to maintain our roads but better signage to re-direct traffic to less congested routes into the town would help.”

A County Council spokesman said: “This work was scheduled during the half term holidays while the roads are quieter to minimise disruption, but the very wet sandy ground made excavations very difficult, and it took much longer to complete than we had expected. We would like to thank people for their patience over the past couple of weeks.”
