LINING up for an exciting ride!

LINING up for an exciting ride! Cycling enthusiasts across the Fylde coast were all in a spin as the town launched its new BMX Club.

And the club, based at Blackpool’s newest two-wheel attraction, the BMX track in Stanley Park, has already attracted two stars of the cycling world – Andy Hill and his nine-year-old daughter Imogen, National BMX Racing Champion for her age.

The father and daughter duo, from Albion Avenue, Blackpool, are big fans of the Stanley Park track since it opened in June.

Andrew Hill, said ‘The track is absolutely fantastic, one of the best in the country and it’s a dream come true for Imogen having this facility on her doorstep.

“It will definitely help her progress and bring more kids from Blackpool into the exciting sport.

At the official launch on Saturday, Blackpool Council presented the club with a cheque for £1,000.

Councillor Graham Cain, cabinet member for tourism and culture: “Since the BMX track on Stanley Park was opened, it has been really successful, so to have an organised club is a great idea.

“I’m delighted we can help to start up the new Blackpool BMX club, which will provide lots of enthusiastic riders with a way of improving their techniques and competing in national competitions.

“Hopefully the new club will make the most of the top class facility at their disposal and who knows; maybe we’ll see a future BMX world champion trained here too.”

British Cycling will also work closely with the club to secure its status as a Go Ride accredited cycle club over the next 12 months.

John Mills, development director at British Cycling said: “British Cycling is proud to be working in partnership with Blackpool to promote and develop cycling.

“We are working together on everything from Go-Ride for children and young people, to Sky Ride for families and of course cycle sport at all levels.

“The BMX track is a fantastic facility and together with a range of new facilities across the UK, this will provide a lasting legacy from London 2012. We wish the new BMX club every success.”
