BLACKPOOL is preparing for the Rocket Man to land.
Work to transform the resort’s Tower Festival Headland into music legend Sir Elton John’s stage has begun.
The first lorries moved onto the site yesterday to lay rubber matting over the Comedy Carpet and the headland’s ‘sails’ were installed.
Today work is expected to begin on the actual stage and on Wednesday the seating will arrive.
Saturday’s concert will be the first performed on the new headland and is set to be a sell-out performance.
Natalie Wyatt, managing director of Marketing Blackpool, said: “This week is enormous for Blackpool.
“Thousands of hours of work have gone into this fantastic event ever since we first secured it back in January, and we are all really looking forward to it.
“The whole site is a hive of activity and from the first lorries arriving on The Tower Festival Headland it is amazing to watch everything coming together. It certainly brings home just what a large scale and exciting operation this is.
“We are watching this new event arena come alive this week and I anticipate seeing many excited people in Blackpool over the weekend.
“This is certainly going to be an event to remember.”
Elton John will be supported by instrumental duo, the Two Cellos.
