A 'suspicious' blaze has broken out behind a second-hand furniture shop in Blackpool.

Two fire engines were called to the fire at about 5.15am on Sunday, which began in a garage behind the property in Grasmere Road.

Watch Manager Ally Park said the shop had flats above it, which were “severely smoke-logged”.

He said: “We had to evacuate the flats and deal with the fire in the garage, and it is being treated as suspicious.”

Fire crews and police are now investigating how the fire started, but it is believed to have been started deliberately.

The garage and the stock in the shop were severely damaged by fire, and there was smoke damage to three flats.

Nobody was hurt.
