The tongue-in-cheek video shows Phil becoming a hero for the day after getting his flu jab.

It went viral and became a massive YouTube hit and health bosses were so impressed they decided to relaunch the film for the national Flu Fighter campaign, advising all NHS staff across the country to protect patients, family and themselves.

Sir David Nicholson, chief executive of the NHS Commissioning Board, said: “The video produced by Blackpool Victoria Hospitals was an innovative way to drive home a very important message about staff flu vaccinations. It’s important for NHS staff to get vaccinated – not only to reduce the risk of flu being passed on to patients and visitors, but also to help ensure services can continue to run smoothly.”

In the video, Phil is seen being extolled by staff and directors after his jab – he even gets a Mexican wave at the directors’ team brief.
